Patio Steps

Forms were set and reinforced with rebar to create concrete steps leading to the pool patio. These steps will be adorned with red brick laid in a herringbone pattern for added visual interest and texture.

Foundation

The foundation has been prepared for the pouring of the interior slab with proper reinforcement and precautions. Specifically, #5 rebar has been used, spaced at 24" intervals and securely tied to opposing bars for added strength. In addition, a 6 mil visqueen vapor barrier has been carefully placed above the soil and beneath the rebar, with all seams expertly sealed to prevent any moisture from rising to the surface. This not only ensures the longevity of the foundation but also facilitates a more effective curing process by retaining moisture for a longer period.

Walkway

The small walkway was skillfully finished with a trowel, providing a smooth surface for safe and easy walking. This new concrete walkway was installed to replace an old, hazardous walkway that was lifted and separated in several places. To ensure durability and stability, the old concrete was removed, and new #4 rebar was installed and securely tied 16" on center in two directions. A 6 sack concrete mix was used to pour this walkway, resulting in a safe and reliable pathway.

Frequently Asked

Concrete Questions

What is the difference between concrete and cement?

Cement is one of the ingredients used to make concrete, which also includes water, aggregate (such as sand or gravel), and additives. Concrete is a versatile construction material that can be used for a variety of projects, from driveways and sidewalks to foundations and buildings.

FAQ image

How long does concrete take to cure?

The amount of time it takes for concrete to cure can vary depending on a number of factors, including the type of concrete, the ambient temperature and humidity, and the size and shape of the concrete structure. In general, concrete will continue to gain strength for several weeks after it is poured, with most of the strength development occurring in the first 28 days.

FAQ image

What is the curing process for concrete?

Curing is the process of allowing the concrete to harden and gain strength. It typically involves keeping the concrete moist and at a moderate temperature for several days or weeks. This allows the cement to hydrate fully and the concrete to develop its maximum strength.

How do I maintain my concrete surfaces?

To keep your concrete surfaces in good condition, it's important to clean them regularly and avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive tools that could damage the surface. You can also apply a sealer to protect the concrete from staining and damage, and repair any cracks or damage as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration.

How long does concrete last?

The lifespan of concrete depends on several factors such as the quality of the mix, the weather conditions, and the level of maintenance. On average, concrete can last up to 30-50 years or more with proper installation and maintenance.

Can concrete be recycled?

Yes, concrete can be recycled by crushing it into aggregate for use in new concrete or for other applications such as road base or landscaping. Recycling concrete helps reduce waste and conserve natural resources.
